Communiqué to the People of Rwanda
Fellow Rwandans,
After nearly two years of engaging with various political groups in Rwanda, we have reached a sobering conclusion: the current political landscape is dominated by the remnants of past regimes, whose ideologies are rooted in cliques and self-interest rather than the collective well-being of the Rwandan people. The so-called opposition groups, including the ruling Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF), have failed to address the deep inequalities and poverty that continue to afflict our nation.
The Failure of the Political Class
The political class in Rwanda, whether aligned with the legacy of Juvénal Habyarimana or the current regime of Paul Kagame, has proven itself incapable of delivering meaningful change. These groups are more concerned with maintaining power and pleasing their benefactors than with addressing the needs of the masses. Their politics are characterized by propaganda, manipulation, and a lack of genuine solutions to the challenges facing Rwandans today.
Worse still, the opposition lacks unity, vision, and the ability to mobilize the people. Their engagement with the youth, peasants, and workers—the backbone of our nation—is virtually nonexistent. This failure has left the Rwandan people without a credible alternative to the status quo.
The Need for a New Political Movement
Recognizing this vacuum, we have taken the bold step of establishing the Free Rwanda Political Organization (FRPO) and its military wing, the Free Rwanda Army (FRA). This movement is not a continuation of the elitist politics that have failed us for decades. It is a revolutionary alternative, rooted in the needs and aspirations of the Rwandan people.
The FRPO is committed to a 50-year plan to transform Rwanda from a predominantly peasant society into a progressive, dynamic, and equitable nation. This plan will prioritize land reform, economic equality, education, healthcare, and the empowerment of women and youth. It will reject the divisive politics of ethnicity and elitism in favour of unity, justice, and collective progress.
International Solidarity and Support
We are proud to announce that the FRPO has successfully built international solidarity and support networks. These alliances will enable us to learn from and share skills with progressive movements around the world. However, let it be clear: the struggle for a free Rwanda will be led by Rwandans, for Rwandans.
Challenges and Resilience
We have already faced challenges, including the deliberate suppression of our online presence by forces aligned with the current regime. But we are not deterred. The legitimacy of our movement does not depend on the approval of those in power. History has shown that even the most marginalized movements can rise to reshape the destiny of a nation.
A Call to Action
The struggle for a free Rwanda is not just the responsibility of the FRPO—it is the responsibility of every Rwandan who believes in justice, equality, and progress. We call on the youth, the peasants, the workers, and all oppressed people to join us in this struggle. Together, we can build a Rwanda that truly serves the interests of its people.
Our Commitment
The FRPO is committed to:
- Building a Mass Movement: We will engage deeply with the people, listen to their struggles, and make their aspirations the foundation of our political program.
- Promoting Unity and Equality: We reject the politics of division and elitism. Our vision is one of unity, justice, and shared prosperity.
- Ensuring Internal Democracy: The FRPO will be a democratic organization where every voice is heard and respected.
- Defending the People: The FRA will protect the movement and the people from any attempts to suppress our struggle.
Forward to a Free Rwanda!
The road ahead will not be easy, but with determination, unity, and a steadfast commitment to the masses, we will achieve victory. The time for change is now. Join us in the struggle for a free, progressive, and dynamic Rwanda.
In Solidarity,
The Free Rwanda Political Organization (FRPO)
The Free Rwanda Army (FRA)
